Paving the Way — Your Way

How much time do you think you spend on pavement each day? You have to count all the time you're driving — unless you're driving on dirt roads. You also have to count the time you spend walking across parking lots. Pavement is really important. That much is clear. Since pavement is so important, we thought we would start a blog to write a little more about pavement and pavement contractors. They deserve mention, too. They have a hard job and one that requires quite a lot of skill. We'll explain some of the skill behind pavement work on this blog, and we'll also dive into other related topics.

Repair And Resurfacing: Extending The Life Of Your Asphalt Pavement

When you invest in asphalt pavement, you expect it to last for years while providing a smooth surface for vehicles and pedestrians. Yet, like any other infrastructure, asphalt pavements are subject to degradation over time. However, with the right maintenance strategy, you can significantly extend your asphalt pavement's lifespan.

Understanding the Importance of Asphalt Pavement Maintenance

Asphalt pavement, like any other infrastructure, requires regular maintenance to keep it in good condition. It's not something you can install and then forget about. Weather conditions, constant usage, and time can all contribute to the gradual wear and tear of the asphalt surface.

However, you don't have to accept that your asphalt pavement will inevitably degrade. By employing proper maintenance strategies, you can ensure that your pavement lasts for decades. This is where repair and resurfacing come into play.

Asphalt Repair: The First Line of Defense

Asphalt repair is the first line of defense when it comes to maintaining asphalt pavement. Even with the most diligent care, small cracks and potholes can appear on the surface over time. If left unattended, these minor issues can escalate into major problems that require costly repairs or even complete replacement of the pavement.

As soon as you notice a crack or pothole, you should address it immediately. Asphalt repair involves filling these cracks and potholes with a suitable filler material. It's a relatively straightforward process, but it requires precision and attention to detail. If done correctly, asphalt repair can restore the surface to its original condition and prevent further damage. This is a task you can take on yourself, or hire an asphalt company to do for you.

Asphalt Resurfacing: A Long-Term Solution

While asphalt repair can handle minor issues, sometimes the damage to your pavement is more extensive. This is where asphalt resurfacing comes in. Resurfacing involves removing the top layer of the asphalt pavement and replacing it with a new layer. It's a more extensive procedure than simple repair but also a more long-term solution.

Asphalt resurfacing can address a variety of issues, including large cracks, rutting, and general surface deterioration. By replacing the damaged top layer, you're essentially giving your pavement a fresh start. However, resurfacing should only be considered if the foundation of the pavement is still in good condition. If the foundation is damaged, a more comprehensive reconstruction may be necessary. This is something you need an asphalt company to handle for you.

In conclusion, asphalt pavement is an investment that requires regular care and attention. By implementing timely repairs and considering resurfacing when necessary, you can extend the lifespan of your pavement, save money, and enhance the aesthetic value of your property. Remember, well-maintained pavement looks good and provides a safe and smooth surface for vehicles and pedestrians.
