Paving the Way — Your Way

How much time do you think you spend on pavement each day? You have to count all the time you're driving — unless you're driving on dirt roads. You also have to count the time you spend walking across parking lots. Pavement is really important. That much is clear. Since pavement is so important, we thought we would start a blog to write a little more about pavement and pavement contractors. They deserve mention, too. They have a hard job and one that requires quite a lot of skill. We'll explain some of the skill behind pavement work on this blog, and we'll also dive into other related topics.

A Beginner's Guide to Maintaining Asphalt and Preventing Cracks

If you own a property with an asphalt driveway or parking lot, you may already know how important it is to maintain it properly. Cracked or damaged asphalt can not only be unsightly, but it can also pose a safety hazard to pedestrians and vehicles alike. Luckily, maintaining your asphalt and preventing cracks is a simple and straightforward task that can save you time and money in the long run.

In this blog post, we'll go over some easy tips and tricks to keep your asphalt in top shape.

Keep it clean

To ensure the longevity of your asphalt, it is crucial to maintain its cleanliness. The presence of dirt, debris, and other substances can compromise the integrity of the asphalt, resulting in cracks and potential damage. The simplest way to keep your asphalt clean is to sweep it regularly to remove any loose dirt or debris. You can also use a pressure washer with a low-pressure nozzle to remove stubborn stains and dirt.

Repair cracks promptly

Even with regular maintenance, cracks may still form in your asphalt. It's important to address any cracks as soon as possible to prevent them from spreading and causing further damage to your pavement. You can easily fill small cracks with an asphalt crack filler, which can be found at most hardware stores. For larger cracks or holes, it's recommended to hire a professional asphalt repair company.

Sealcoat regularly

Sealcoating is the process of applying a protective coating to your asphalt to protect it from water, UV rays, and other environmental factors. By doing so, you can extend the life of your asphalt and prevent cracking and other damage. It's recommended to sealcoat your asphalt every few years, depending on the amount of traffic it receives.

Avoid heavy loads

Heavy loads such as trucks or machinery can put a lot of stress on your asphalt and cause cracking or damage. Whenever possible, avoid driving or parking heavy vehicles on your asphalt. If it's not possible, make sure the vehicles are distributed evenly over the pavement to minimize the stress on any one area.

Hire a professional

Lastly, if you're unsure about how to maintain your asphalt or if you need repairs, it's always best to hire a professional. A reputable asphalt repair company can inspect your pavement, offer advice, and perform any necessary repairs or maintenance. They can also provide you with tips on how to prevent future damage and keep your pavement in great condition for years to come.
